PHILOSOPHY OF ART
Philosophies, religions,
mathematics, structures, and physics are diversely expressed
descriptions and manifestations of the elements of existence. Whether
on the scale of invisibility or on the level of the cosmos, these same
elements and forces prevail, My work is centered on my belief in the
connectedness among all these facets of existence
Ancients in the West
described four elements: earth, air, fire, and water; while their
counterparts in the East described air as metal, and added wood.
Neither description was meant solely as a description of physical
reality, but rather a description of forces as well. Through these
metaphors, all aspects of existence were described and explained. Since
that time much categorization has taken place - but all new
descriptions and definitions fall within these ancient frameworks
My sculptures speak to the
interaction of these forces within our personal natures and in nature
of which we are a part.
